Rif Beitza 17a {Beitza 30b continues; 31a}

17a

{Beitza 30b continues}

all is according to his condition.

And does a condition indeed work on it?
But Rav Sheshet said in the name of Rabbi Akiva: How do we know that the wood of a succah is forbidden in benefit all seven {days of Succot}? Therefore it teaches {Vayikra 23:34}:
34 Speak unto the children of Israel, saying: On the fifteenth day of this seventh month is the feast of tabernacles for seven days unto the LORD.
And Rabbi Yehuda ben Beteira says: How do we know that just as the name of Heaven applies to the chagiga offering, so does the name of Heaven apply to the succah? Therefore it teaches חַג הַסֻּכּוֹת שִׁבְעַת יָמִים, לַה -- just as the chagiga is to Hashem, so too is the succah to Hashem.

And does a condition not help with it?!
But they learnt {in a brayta}: If he placed valid schach on it and decorated it with colored cloth, embroidered sheets, and hung from it nuts, peaches, pomegranates, bunches of grapes and wreaths of grain, wines, oils and flours, it is forbidden to take from them until motzaei the last day of Yom Tov of Succot; and if he made a condition on them, all is according to his condition!
Abaye and Rava both say that this is where he said "I do not separate from the entire time of twilight," such that sanctification does not take effect on them at all. But the wood of the succah, which sanctification effects it, becomes muktzeh for seven {days}.

And how is this different from this that was stated {by Amoraim}: If one set aside seven etrogs for seven days:
Rav said: Each and every one of them, he may fulfill with it {on that day} and eat it immediately.
And Rav Asi said: Each one, he may fulfill with it and eat it the next day.
There, where nights spearate the days {in terms of fulfillment}, each and every day stands alone.
Here, where nights do not serve to separate the days, they are all reckoned as a single long day.

{Beitza 31a resumes}
"We may bring wood from a field from that which has been gathered...":
Rav Yehuda cited Shmuel: We do not bring wood except from that which has been gathered in a karpaf {enclosure}. But we learnt: From the karpaf, and even from that which is scattered?!
Our Mishna is a single opinion, for we learnt {in a Mishna}: Rabbi Shimon ben Eleazar said: Bet Shammai and Bet Hillel do not argue regarding that which is scattered in the field that we may not bring it, nor on that which is gathered in a karpaf that we may bring it. On what do they argue? About that which is scattered in a karpaf and on that which is gathered in the field; that Bet Shammai say he should not bring it and Bet Hillel say he may bring it.

Rava said: Leaves of reeds and leaves of vines, even though they are gathered and lying {on the ground before Yom Tov}, since {our gemara: since if} a wind blows on them and scatters it, they are like scattered and are forbidden. And if he places a utensil upon it from yesterday, it is fine {to use them}.
