Rif Gittin 31a {65a; 64a}

31a

{Gittin 65a}

Rava said: There are three grades in a minor:
{If he finds} a pebble and discards it, but a nut and keeps it, he can take possession for himself but not for others. And corresponding by a minor girl, she can be divorced from a betrothal contracted by her father.
To explain: Such as where her father died. But in the lifetime of her father, and she is in the domain of her father, he father accepts her get, and not her.

The young children, their purchases are valid purchases and their sales are valid sales, in terms of movable objects. And they are about 6 or 7 or 8 or 9 or 10 years old, each of them in accordance with their sharpness {intelligence}. Ad correspondingly, by a minor girl, she can be betrothed such that she would require refusal {to annul it}.

When they reach the age of vows, their vows are valid vows, and their consecrations are consecrations. And the equivalent by a minor girl, she may undergo chalitza.
(* And the halacha is not like Rava in terms of chalitza, for behold we rule in Bava Batra, perek Mi sheMet: Rav Nachman cited Shmuel, etc. *)
And to sell the {land} assets of his father, until he is 20 years old.

And we derive from this that even though the son has brought forth two hairs, he may not sell the assets of his father until he is 20 years old.

{Gittin 64a}
Rav Yehuda cited Rav Assi: If we give him a pebble and he tosses it, but a nut and he takes it, then he can take possession for himself but not for others.
If {we give him} an item and he returns it after an hour, then he can take possession for himself and take possession for others.
And Shmuel said: Both this one and that one, he can take possession for himself but not for others. For he cannot take possession for others until he brings forth two hairs.
And so is the halacha {like Shmuel}.
