Rif Yevamot 33a {Yevamot 102b continues; 103a} Material For The Chalitza Sandal; Position for Chalitza

33a

{Yevamot 102b continues}

Rav Yehuda cited Rav: A sandal sewn with flax, we do not perform chalitza with it, for it is stated {Yechezkel 16:10}:
10 I clothed thee also with richly woven work, and shod thee with sealskin, and I wound fine linen about thy head, and covered thee with silk.
{implying that naal is done with leather}.
Rabbi Eleazar inquired of Rav: If it is made of leather and its straps of animal hair, what Pis the law}?
He said to him: Would we not call {/apply} to this {Yechezkel 16:10}:
10 I clothed thee also with richly woven work, and shod thee with sealskin, and I wound fine linen about thy head, and covered thee with silk.
? {We can and so it would be valid.}
"If so, even if all of it was animal hair, as well!"
He said to him: That is called kurka {a slipper}.

This that they taught {tnan}: felt socks, her chalitza is invalid, Rava established it with socks of cloth, but socks of leather, her chalitza is valid.

{Yevamot 103a}

They learnt {in a brayta}: A woman who underwent chalitza from an adult, whether he was standing or sitting or reclining, and a woman who underwent chalitza from a blind man, her chalitza is valid.

Amemar said: If someone performs chalitza, he needs to press down his foot.
Another textual variant: To make his foot straight.
Rav Ashi said to Amemar: But they learnt {in a brayta}: Whether standing, sitting, or reclining!
He said to him: Yes, so long as he presses down with his foot.

Amemar said: One who walks on the upper side of his foot {due to a deformity} should not undergo chalitza.
Rav Ashi said: According to what Amemar said, Bar Avin could not undergo chalitza and Bar Kappin could not undergo chalitza.

There is according to one {posek} who said that the halacha is not like Amemar, from the fact that Rav Ashi said "according to what Amemar said..." we can derive that he does not hold like him. And furthermore, this that they learnt {in the Mishna}: from the knee and higher, the chalitza is invalid, and from the knee down the chalitza is valid.

And we do not hold so, for if this reasoning were so, Amemar would be arguing on our Mishna, and we cannot say that Amemar is arguing on our Mishna. And furthermore, if he were arguing on our Mishna, they would have retorted to him with a tiyuvta {conclusive disprove} from it, and from the fact that they do not so reject him based on it, we deduce from this that our Mishna has one reasoning and Amemar has a different, non-conflicting reasoning.
