A large animal is acquired with mesirah {giving over the reigns}, and a light animal with lifting. These are the words of Rabbi Meir [and Rabbi Eleazar]. And the Sages say: A light animal is acquired through pulling.
{Kiddushin 26a}
Assets which carry responsibility {achrayot, such that one need recompense any purchaser if it collected with a lien -- thus, real property} are acquired with money, with a shtar, or with chazaka {demonstrating ownership}, while those which do not carry responsibility {movable objects} are only acquired with pulling.
Assets which do not carry responsibility may be acquired together with assets which carry responsibility via money, shtar, or chazaka, and can bring along the assets which do not carry responsibility, to swear upon them.

Gemara:
Rav expounded in Kimchunia: A large animal is acquired via pulling.
Shmuel found the students of Rav.
He said to them: What does Rav say by a large animal?
They said to him: So says Rav: A large animal is acquired via pulling.
But we learn {in the Mishna} via mesirah {handing it over}. He too, says by means of mesirah. And he retracted from it, for he says like that Tanna where they learnt {in a brayta}, "and the Sages say this and that {large and small animals} via pulling.
And so is the halacha.
