ומגבינן ביה אמאי תרי ותרי נינהו
אמר רב נחמן אוקי תרי לבהדי תרי ואוקי נכסי בחזקת מאריה מידי דהוה אנכסי דבר שטיא דבר שטיא זבין נכסי אתו בי תרי ואמרו כשהוא שוטה זבין ואתו בי תרי ואמרו כשהוא חלים זבין נכסי
א"ר אשי אוקי תרי לבהדי תרי ואוקי ממונא בחזקת בר שטיא ולא אמרן אלא דאית ליה חזקה דאבהתיה אבל לית ליה חזקה דאבהתיה אמרי כשהוא שוטה זבן וכשהוא שוטה זבין

And do we indeed collect with it? Why? They are two and two?
{Ketubot 20a}
Rav Nachman said: We establish two against two and we leave the assets in its owner's possession. Just as was true by the assets of a certain madman.
For a certain madman sold assets, and two came and said that he sold it while he was a madman, and two others came and said that when he was of right mind he sold his assets. Rav Ashi said: We set up the two against the two and we leave the money in its assumed state with the madman. And we do not say it except where he has a presumption because it was his fathers', but if he does not have a presumption since it was his fathers, we say that when he was a madman he sold and when he was a madman he bought.

אמר רבי אבהו אין מזימין את העדים אלא בפניהם ומכחישין את העדים שלא בפניהם
והזמה שלא בפניהם נהי דהזמה לא הויא הכחשה מיהא הויא
אמר רב אסי אין מקיימין את השטר משטר שקרא עליו ערער אא"כ הוחזק בב"ד
אמרי נהרדעי אין מקיימין את השטר אלא משטרי שתי שדות או שתי כתובות והוא שאכלום בעליהן שלש שנים ובשופי
וביוצא מתחת יד אחר אבל מתחת ידו לא חיישינן שמא זיופי זייף

Rabbi Abahu said: We only rebut {by saying "you were with us in another place at that time"} the witnesses in their presence, but we can contradict {the substance of the testimony of} the witnesses even not in their presence.
And while rebuttal not in their presence, granted it is not rebuttal, but it is however a valid contradiction.
Rav Asi said: We do not establish {=confirm} a contract {in terms of handwriting} from another contract that was contested, unless it {that other contract} was confirmed in court.
The Nehardaeans say: We do not establish a contract unless from contracts of two fields or two ketubot, and this is only where their owners enjoyed them {the fields} for three years, in in comfort {without protest from others}.
And this is where it {the contract} came out of the hand of another person, but from his own hand, he worry lest it is a forgery.
