{Taanit 11b}
Zeiri cited Rav Huna: If an individual accepts upon himself a fast for two days, one after the other, even if he eats and drinks all night {in the middle} he prays the Tefillat Taanit {Aneinu in Shemoneh Esrei}. {For although he did not explicitly accept the second day's fast in the first day's Mincha, he had accepted both days initially, before the fast, and the fact that he ate during the intervening night does not matter.}
If he slept in his fast, he does not pray a Tefillat Taanit.
That is to say, if he only accepted upon himself to fast one day, and he fasted that day, and at night he changes his mind as kept his fast through the night, the next day, he does not pray a Tefillat Taanit, for he did not accept it upon himself while it was yet day.
{Taanit 12a}
And Rav Chisda said: Any Taanit which the sun did not set upon is not called a fast.
