BEGIN PEREK NINE - KOL GAGGOT
Mishna:
All the roofs of the town are one domain, provided no roof is ten higher or ten lower. There are the words of Rabbi Meir.
And the Sages say, Each roof is a separate domain.
Rabbi Shimon says: It is all one whether roofs, courtyards, or karpefot - one domain for vessels that were on the Shabbat, but not for vessels that were on the Shabbat within the house.

{Eruvin 90b}
Gemara:
Rav Yehuda said: When you will find to say {=a careful study would show} that according to Rabbi Meir, roofs are regarded as a separate domain, courtyards as a separate domain, {Erubin 91a} and karpafs a separate domain. According to the view of the Sages, roofs and courtyards form a single domain and karpafs form a single {other} domain. According to Rabbi Shimon, they are all a single domain.

Rav said: The halacha is like Rabbi Shimon, provided they did not make an eruv. But if they did make an eruv, we make a decree lest he come to bring the vessels of the house into the courtyard.
And Shmuel said: The halacha is like Rabbi Shimon, whether or not they made an eruv.
And so did Rabbi Yochanan say: Whether or not they made an eruv.
And we establish like Shmuel and Rabbi Yochanan.

{Eruvin 90a}
A ship:
Rav said: We may carry throughout.
And Shmuel said: We may only carry in in four cubits.

Rav said that we may carry throughout, for there are walls.
And Shmuel said thay we may only carry in in four cubits, {Eruvin 90b} for the walls are only there to keep out the water.

Rav Chiyya bar Yosef said to him {Shmuel}: Is the halacha like you or like Rav?
He said to him: The halacha is like Rav.

{Eruvin 92a}
Mishna:
A large roof next to a small one
